AAA does not only exist, but roadside assistance plans that come with the guarantee of your car, card credit, insurance and even your cell phone.

Most of us think about the roadside assistance until the next break of the road with no one to help. And even if you have roadside assistance available, may or may not help in the way they should be because of gaps in the coverage.

The foundations of Roadside Assistance

Choosing the right plan

Consider your lifestyle and your family's needs before deciding on a roadside assistance plan. Here are some general guidelines that can help you choose the right one.

 • Consider a complete self-service plan at the club, such as those offered by AAA, the GM Motor Club, AARP and the Better World Club if your family has more than one car or whether it should cover more than one driver. Verify that you are not duplicating coverage you already have your credit card.

 • Go with the automaker's service that came with your new or certified car if that is the only vehicle of its property.

 • Choose a plan more generous allocation of towing and trip interruption benefits if you frequently travel far from home.

 • A mobile phone or card credit plan options may also be useful as it can be used in any car coverage.

 • Always read the fine print.

 • Be aware that there are places where no plan can go. In some restricted roads, local governments license towage and prohibit others from sending help. In that case, you need to call 911 and expect the best.
