Q&A: Motorcycle insurance quote odd issue?

Question by : Motorcycle insurance quote odd issue?
I did one of those online quotes on progressive for motorcycle insurance. I’m 16, live in illinois, never got a ticket, have taken the MSF course, and have a 1986 Suzuki sp 125. The total yearly rate was ONLY $ 161. That seems absolutely false and way too cheap. Is that really only how much it would cost. Is there another part of the insurance that is supposed to cost alot? Anything else I should know?
Thanks.

Presumably this quote is for a minimum (maybe 15 or 25,000) liability coverage only for someone you might hit. Considering the age of your bike you would most likely NOT want to insure for collision damage to your bike. Collision coverage on your motorcycle would probably be another extra $ 200 or so. 2 years of premiums and you could by another bike! The insurance company considers that you probably are UNLIKELY to do a lot of damage to anyone with a 125. Now a 100 HP 600 cc superbike is another matter. Probably $ 2000 (or more for that).
