You’d need to pass a test at your state insurance department website, and then find a company willing to let you sell their motorcycle insurance policies.

You’d be calling yourself an agent or broker.

Doing insurance means selling motorcycle insurance. Unless you want to be a claims adjustor. Contact the Department of Insurance in your state for help.

Steve,

Par time motorcycle insurance person is not a good plan. It is not as easy or a cheap as you might think to become an insurance agent. Just about every state requires a minimum number of hours of pre-licensing classes before you apply for your insurance license. Then you have to pass an insurance exam that covers much more than motorcycle insurance.

Once you do that you don’t just start selling motorcycle insurance. The next step is securing contracts with with an insurance carrier. Without being a contracted agent you will not be able to represent the company as an agent (i.e. you can’t sell their insurance). Expect low commission income because motorcycle premiums are fairly low, renewal persistency for this class of business is very low and don’t forget you are competing against major carriers offering the same coverage on the internet.

Then be prepared to continue taking insurance courses for the entire time you are a licensed agent because most states have mandatory continuing education requirements. If you don’t accumulate enough credits your license will be suspended.
